Mixed Class Hazardous Chemical Facility (NSW)

MicroRisk Group was engaged by the client to provide advice in relation to the storage and handling of mixed class hazardous chemicals (dangerous goods) at their hazardous waste facility in New South Wales.

The client requested advice on the storage and handling of hazardous chemicals including:

  • Class 4 Flammable Solids

  • Class 5.1 Oxidisers

  • Class 5.2 Organic Peroxides

  • Class 6.1 Toxics

  • Class 8 Corrosives

  • Class 9 Miscellaneous

  • Combustible Liquids

MicroRisk Group provided actionable insights into the requirements of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and WHS Regulations, including relevant industry standards.

MicroRisk Group reviewed existing risk controls and made recommendations in relation to:

  • spill containment

  • segregation and separation

  • fire protection

  • emergency response and preparedness

  • ventilation

  • operating procedures

During the course of the hazardous chemical review, the client proposed increasing storage limits of some hazardous chemicals in order to meet customer demand. This change was rapidly incorporated in the advice, providing a pragmatic path forward which met the client’s commercial needs.
