Major Hazard Facility Regulatory Compliance (QLD)

MicroRisk Group was engaged by the client to provide advice in relation to their premises which is considered a Major Hazard Facility (MHF) pursuant to the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 (QLD).

The Regulations specify duties for operators and employees of MHFs in order to prevent major incidents that may lead to injury and death.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) attended the MHF and identified the following ‘unfavourable circumstances’:

  • lack of effective spill containment for hazardous chemicals

  • lack of hazardous area classification

  • ignition sources used in probable hazardous areas

  • inappropriate hazardous chemical segregation

  • lack of planning and environmental authority

MicroRisk Group engaged directly with WHSQ and supported the client by:

  • Advising on the adequacy, effectiveness and implementation of corrective actions by the client to remedy issues identified by WHSQ

  • Ensuring the client was effectively identifying and managing MHF and regulatory risks at the premises

  • Monitoring, supporting and facilitating interactions between site personnel and WHSQ to ensure effectiveness and efficiency

  • Ensuring the client was effectively providing evidence of compliance to WHSQ

  • Supporting the client to address regulatory notices issued by WHSQ
